This bpa’s Contemporary/Improv class!  It is a brand new class at bpa.  And is quickly becoming one of our favorite classes.  We would like to recommend this class to anyone and everyone.  Particularly those of you who are interested in Modern and Contemporary style of dance.  Because this style of dance has become so popular in today’s American culture we wanted to make sure to create and develop a class  that would appeal to everyone.  We also wanted to make sure that the class would incorporate a strong technical base. This class will benefit dancers with skill levels from beginner to advanced.
In this Contemporary-Improv class the students will explore the basic principles and physicality of Contemporary Modern dance techniques.  These techniques include Limón, Horton, and Graham in addition to many others.  The class will begin with a warm up.  Flexibility is a very important aspect of this style of dance therefore included in the class are multiple stretching exercises.  There will be exercises that move across the floor.  These exercises will include turns and leg extensions.  Then they will graduate to small jumps and culminate with a various selection of big jumps.
This class will also introduce the students to floor work consequently improving their mobility and agility. This type and style of floor work is unique to this class.
We’ve added many elements to this class. As a result students will have the opportunity to use this particular style of movement as a way to express themselves freely.  In addition to technique the class will include Improvisation.  Improv is such an important part of this form of dance because it allows each student the opportunity to develop their own unique individuality.  It also promotes and encourages the growth of each students creativity and imagination.
