Pilates Mat Class
Pilates Mat Class
Pilates Mat Class is an all around physical fitness workout method. It is an offshoot of the Pilates method using apparatus. This class can be done in a group using just mats or incorporating a magic circle, light weights and foam rollers.
Pilates was developed in the early 20th century by Joseph Pilates. Pilates called his method “Contrology.” When Joseph Pilates passed away in October of 1967 they change the name to Pilates. It is practiced worldwide using apparatus or on a mat using tools such as a magic circle, weights and foam rollers.
Joseph Pilates presents his method as the art of controlled movements. It is a workout of the entire body. When it’s properly executed it flows like a choreographed dance. If practiced with consistency, Pilates improves flexibility and builds strength. It will also develop control and endurance in the entire body. It puts emphasis on lengthening, alignment and breathing. It is practiced by men and women alike from all woks of life who want to get strong and improve their flexibility throughout their lives using a safe and controlled method. All kinds of athletes, from football players to ballet dancers, have been using Pilates as a compliment to their day to day practices for decades.
With a strong core you can then improve coordination and balance. The core, consisting of the muscles of the abdomen, low back, and hips. It is often called the “powerhouse” and is thought to be the key to a person’s stability. A strong core helps improve lower back pain and other injuries.
bpa’s Pilates Mat Class system allows for different exercises to be modified in range of difficulty from beginner to advanced and every level in between. It can also be modified depending on the student’s specific goals and if they have any limitations or injuries. Intensity can be increased over time as the body conditions and adapts to the exercises.
